Cedar Creek Lake is the fourth largest lake in Texas located in Henderson and Kaufman counties and conveniently located 60 miles from Dallas; in addition the lake community is centrally located between Houston, Austin, DFW, Tyler, and Longview.  Homeownership on the waterfront with a boathouse is allowed. There are plenty of sports available at Cedar Creek Lake: fishing, boating, jet skiing, wakeboarding, waterskiing, and more. Numerous small towns surround the lake. Mabank, Eustace, Gun Barrel City, Payne Springs, Enchanted Oaks, Caney City, Malakoff, Trinidad, Tool, Seven Points, and Kemp collectively account for over 50,000 permanent residences. Population is increased tremendously during the summer season. There are more than 350 lake subdivisions around the lake.

Cedar Creek Lake has 320 miles of shoreline, is 18 miles long, 8.5 miles wide, and includes 32,623 acres. The lake elevation is 322 feet above sea level and fluctuation is 4 feet and the maximum depth is 53 feet. Tarrant Regional Water District is the reservoir controlling authority. The lake supplies water to Fort Worth, Arlington, and other cities and water districts' water infrastructure.

There are quite a few small towns in Henderson County around the Cedar Creek Lake area.

  • Gun Barrel City is the hub for the Cedar Creek Lake area. Gun Barrel City is a certified retirement community. Area amenities include shopping, dining, churches, movie theater, schools, and more.
  • Mabank is the entrance into the Cedar Creek Lake area. You will find a quaint Main Street with retail shopping, a truck yard for some yummy meals, schools, and rodeo grounds. In the Mabank area the types of homes you will find are residential, acreage, in town, waterfront and offwater properties. The main post office for the lake community is in Mabank. (Due to that it is possible that some small communities may actually have a Mabank address).
  • Eustace is located on the east side of the lake area. Eustace amenities include a town square, restaurants, gas station, post office, churches and schools. You will find ranch/acreage homes, residential homes, waterfront homes and offwater homes.
  • Enchanted Oaks is an incorporated small town on the east side of the lake located in Henderson county. Enchanted Oaks students will attend Eustace schools. You will find offwater homes and waterfront homes. Enchanted Oaks has a city hall, park, swimming pool and a boat launch. There is even a fire station at the entrance. Eustace is located on the east side of Cedar Creek Lake. You will find ranch/acreage homes, residential homes, waterfront homes and offwater homes in Enchanted Oaks.
  • Payne Springs is located on the east side of the lake area. Area amenities include dining, churches, and gas stations. Homes in Payne Springs will typically use a Mabank mailing address. You will find ranch/acreage homes, offwater and waterfront homes in this little community.
  • Malakoff is located on the south side of Cedar Creek Lake. Area amenities include shopping, dining, churches, gas stations, another quaint Main street with antique shops and schools. Malakoff has the largest school district in the area.
  • Star Harbor is an incorporated town/community on the west side of the lake area. They have a 9-hole golf course, boat launch, police, water and city hall. Star Harbor is one of the FEW areas that has Atmos gas available to residents.
  • Tool is located on the west side of the lake area. Tool amenities include a police station, church, and elementary school. You will find ranch/acreage homes, residential homes, waterfront and offwater homes. As of 2021 a new Senior housing community is being built and Tool has plans for a new community park.
  • Trinidad is a small town on the southwest side of the lake area. You will find offwater and waterfront homes, farm and ranches. Trinidad amenities are police department, post office, schools, gas station, restaurants and Dollar General.
